How are family meals different from other Tovala meals?
Tovala Family Meals are designed to serve four people (four adult portions — and likely more if you’re feeding kids), all using your existing Tovala oven.
Each meal is meant to be enjoyed family-style, with plenty of everything to go around. The entire meal cooks together with a single QR code scan, so everything is ready at the same time.
They’re perfect for families, roommates, hosting dinner guests, or couples who enjoy generous portions or leftovers for lunch.
How do I arrange the oven racks in my oven to cook a Family Meal?
See below for how to arrange both oven racks in your Tovala to properly cook these meals. Specific information will be provided on the meal inserts for each Family Meal.
How can you fit 4 servings of food in the Tovala, I can hardly fit 1?
Our chefs optimized the oven’s capacity by utilizing both the Black Sheet Tray and the Tovala Air Fry Basket. By placing half of the food on each of these trays we are able to fit four substantial servings of food in your existing Tovala oven.
What if I don’t have a Tovala Air Fry Basket?
All Tovala ovens have included an Air Fry Basket since September of 2022. If you do not have an air fry basket, you can purchase one here.
Do I need to cook the full meal together?
Yes, Family Meals are intended to be cooked together. Some ingredients are packaged in larger portions and therefore designed to be cooked together for the best results. Don’t worry, there’s more than enough of everything to go around! Even if you’re feeding fewer than four, these meals make excellent leftovers that reheat well in your Tovala oven (see below for more detail on reheating leftovers).
Can I cook 4 portions of other Tovala meals at the same time?
No, not all of our standard single-serve Tovala meals are intended to be cooked using the Family Meal method. Our Family Meal offerings are specifically designed to accommodate multiple portions cooked together.
Will the food be packaged differently than the ones I receive now?
Your family meal will be packed in one single meal package, like your other Tovala meals (although it will be slightly larger to accommodate more ingredients). Some items, like proteins, tortillas or bread, may be packed outside of the meal box, like they are with standard Tovala meals. Check your meal insert for details.
I normally receive one box of meals but this week when I ordered a family meal I received 2 separate boxes? Why did this happen?
Tovala's system automatically adjusts the size and quantity of your shipping boxes to accommodate the meals and Extras you ordered. Family Meals are 4 servings packaged together and take up more room in the shipping box than a standard single serve meal so it is sometimes necessary for us to split your order into 2 shipping boxes.

How much do Family Meals cost?
Family Meals start at $8.99 per serving. While the prices of our Family Meals vary from meal to meal, they are all available at a lower cost per serving than typical single-serve Tovala meals.
Why do I see an additional charge in my order summary if Family Meals meals are cheaper than typical meals?
An additional charge is shown for all multi-serving meals, as our base price meal cost is for a single serve meal.
A Family Meal that costs $8.99 per serving x 4 servings would cost $35.96 total.
$35.96 (meal cost) - $13.99 (base price) = $21.97 that would show in the "Extras, Premium, Two-Pack, or Family Meals" line of your order summary and receipt.
Why do Family Meals that serve 4 people only count as 1 meal in my box?
Family Meals are a single meal that just contain more servings. All 4 servings are packaged in one box, making them account for a single meal in your order that week. If you prefer to order less single-serve meals alongside your Family Meals, simply change your weekly box size in the app. You can do this on a given menu by clicking "Skip/Adjust" or editing your plan size in Settings.
Can I mix Family Meals with individual meals in one order?
Of course! A Family Meal counts as one “meal spot” but contains four servings. You can freely mix Family Meals, two-pack meals and single-serve meals in the same weekly box—just be sure to meet the weekly minimum meal requirement.
I’m not interested in Family Meals - do I have to see them?
No problem! You can filter out Family Meals so they don’t appear on your main menu.
Just click the Filter button in the top-right corner of the menu and under Meal Preferences select Single-Serving Only. You can update your filter preferences anytime.
Now that Family Meals are on the menu are there less single-serve options for me?
Nope! We did not remove single-serve dishes to make room for Family Meals, we simply made our menu larger. You still have the same number of single-serve options to choose from.
Portion, Nutrition & Variety
How many people does each family meal serve?
Each Tovala Family Meal contains 4 adult portions of food, the same size (or slightly larger) than a standard single-serve Tovala meal. These meals are designed to be enjoyed together in a family-style format so you can mix and match items based on your tastes and preferences. These meals can definitely feed more if you have kids, or less if you’re feeding adults with large appetites.
My kids are very picky eaters, will these meals work for us?
These meals are intended to be an excellent solution for a variety of taste preferences, including both adults and pickier children. As with most Tovala meals, sauces, toppings, and spices are packaged separately so you can customize flavors for kids or anyone with specific preferences.
Are the portion sizes as large as a standard single-serve Tovala meal?
Yes, each portion of a Family Meal is as large as a standard Tovala Meal.
Is the nutritional information provided for the whole meal, or just a serving?
The nutritional information provided is for a single-serving of a Family Meal. Each meal contains 4 individual servings.
Storage & Leftovers
What’s the best way to store leftovers?
First, let your leftovers cool. Then refrigerate in airtight containers within 2 hours of cooking. Consume within 3–4 days for optimal freshness.
Can I reheat leftovers in the Tovala Oven?
Yes! Your Tovala oven is perfect for reheating any leftovers. Use your oven’s reheat button until your food is warmed through and reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
